I want to express our deeply sympathy toward to the family of Popowski: Ron, his family and the parents, Charles and Sally for their beloved son, brother, brother in law, uncle and friend. Ron has put up lot of sacrifices to provide 2 memorial services for both west and east sides of USA (New Jersey and Washington State). I know Tom is smiling up there.

Tom has walked/ran/cycled around the world with his own legs more than anyone I can think of and left thousands of footprints for us to remember.

Tom was originally from New Jersey, went to NTID from 1985 (SVP '85) to 1991. Moved to Northwest (Washington State) in early 90's. His life was full of ADVENTURES! Believe it or not, he has been to 72 different countries, not 10, 3 or 65! Wondered how many miles he has ran, walked and cycled. I am sure he had more mileages than the 1966 Ford Mustang with rebuilt engines.

You, Tom, were tragically taken from us, and that's what makes it so hard. But, we all love you so much and still wish that you were still here. You meant a lot to everyone.

Tom Popowski, 42, passed away peacefully in his sleep at his home in Everett, Washington during early morning hour of Wednesday January 30, 2008 after complications in his liver stemming from colon cancer.

There will be two Memorial Services with one in Seattle, Washington and another one in New Jersey sometime in April or May 2008. Announcements with details of date and location for Memorial Services will be forthcoming in coming weeks.

Tom is survived by his parents Charles and Sally Popowski; and his brother Ron, his wife Jennifer and three kids, Sima, Trista and Trent.

Tom will be sorely missed. Thank you friends, families, teachers, and players. Your life continues to have meaning and you will always be in our hearts and souls. Ron Popowski

Please send your love, support, and condolence to his family (Bro Ron, parents - Charles and Sally) at this email address:

I am sooo saddened at Tom's passing. He was an amazing man and a good friend. Even though he was young ... he lived more in his 42 years than I will live if I live to be 90. God Bless you Tom!

I just received the news of my cousin Thomas' death. I hadn't seen him in many years, but i do remember a time when he visited my family one summer at our house on the Jersey Shore. I was home recuperating from a broken leg, when late one night I was made aware of someone entering the house. Great, I thought, a burglar, what am I going to do, hit him with my crutches? I listened tensely to the sounds coming from downstairs. The night was quiet, and I could hear everything, and I wondered what could possibly be happening, when the sound of someone eating a bowl of cereal unmistakeably made its way through the night air. Now what, someone broke into our house just eat Cap'n Crunch?! To make a long story short, my mother forgot to inform me that Thomas would be visiting, thus leading to all of my wild imaginings.

Hi, my first met tom was at cscdhh in downtown seattle. That time was in mid of 1990's. I have been thru hardship so he help me understand about real world is about. He just move to washington with only a green truck and things that all he have. He have no job as do I.. He have alot of courage thru our deaf communities. He came in seattle and see if any deaf club alive ? Nah they are dead club so Tom willing to take over and put foundation on our club. He always teasing me about smoking issues. I always think over and over of what he say. I do love him as man who did well in communities.. I totally missed him so much.. Trying be best to be at memorial on June 8th. My heart go to Popowski's family and friend..

We always talking about sports on emails often....now He already gone. I miss him. He was great friend. Funny is when he moved to Seattle from N.J. he only had $300 cash and beat up his truck when I met him in early '90's. Every time we travel for softball tournament we usually sleep in the hotel but he always sleep in his truck even in Canada too. I learned that he wants save money for travel in the world. Wow that's very wise for him! We miss you Tom.....

It caught me by surprised that Tom has moved on to the next chapter of his life. I had no idea that he was suffering with cancer. It was a tragic loss, but now he is in a good place. He was my pledge brother in RIT and we had several good memories back then. Im very impressed with his traveling and im not sure if I have ever met any Deaf person whos able to travel 72 different areas in the world. He is already sorely missed and Im really glad to have the chance to know him part of my life. God Rest his Soul.. Maybe he is taken away because God wants to hear about his interesting Travel experiences. (Smile)

As for Ron, Hang in there! Loosing love ones isnt a great thing in life! Hopefully see you in the near future....
